There’s No Place Like Home: Justice, Migration & Arts | Mansions of the Future

There’s No Place Like Home is a three-day event taking place during 24th – 26th April at Mansions of the Future in Lincoln. It will comprise of an immersive installation by award-winning photographer Hoda Afshar; an artist talk with detainee, novelist and human rights activist Behrouz Boochani; readings by professional actors from Boochani’s prize-winning memoir No Friend But the Mountains; a talk with Omid Tofighian, the translator of Boochani’s book; the premiere of an original composition by Lincolnshire-based composer Simon Le Boggit; and a film screening of Remain (Afshar). 

There’s No Place Like Home is sponsored by the Lincoln Institute for Advanced Studies in collaboration with the Centre for Culture and Creativity and the Network for Justice, Arts and Migration, and will feature the 2018-19 LIAS Visiting Fellow Professor John Erni (HKBU) and Visiting Artist Hoda Afshar.

  • 24 April & 25 April, 11.30am – 1pm & 2pm – 4pm: Readings from No Friend but the Mountains (Boochani 2018)
  • 24 April & 25 April, 1pm – 2pm: Premiere of composition commissioned from Lincolnshire-based composer, Le Boggit, as a response to the work of Afshar & Boochani
  • 24 April, 5 – 6pm: Hoda Afshar Artist Talk
  • 25 April, 12pm – 1pm: Meet the Translator
  • 25 April, 5pm – 7pm: Film Screening & Discussion
  • 26 April: Symposium discussing arts interventions & ethics in debates on detention & refugee experience (by invitation only)
