Welcome to the new LALT Continuous Professional Development (CPD) opportunities page. Â
CPD is an essential part of the role of a professional educator. It will not only enhance your career but also help you contribute to a more effective and engaging learning environment for our students. In response to changes across our institution, the student body and the wider Higher Education sector, the Academic Development team are working hard to create a more flexible and responsive CPD offer for those who are teaching and supporting learning at Lincoln. This will complement our existing provision of opportunities for teaching qualification and recognition.   Â
On this page you will find links to online, self-study resources that mark phase one of a new approach. The resources have been packaged into two pathways (New to teaching and Programme Leader) based on the intended audience but can be accessed by anyone who wishes to use them. Â
The resources are an early release and pilot of the new model which will be launched in full in September 2025. We hope that you find them useful and would be grateful for your feedback. Â
CPD Resources
A sequence of CPD resources have been constructed in Blackboard to support your development. By accessing the Blackboard sites linked below, you will be able to self-enrol onto a guided resource page.
Each resource block will include an indication of approximate study time to help plan your learning. You can dip in and out of the content, allowing you to work through the resources at your own pace. Once you have enrolled and started a resource, you will be able to revisit the site by navigating to ‘My Communities’ in Blackboard and clicking on the appropriate CPD resource.
At the end of each resource, you will be asked to complete an exit task which will capture your learning from the resource and provide the opportunity to leave any relevant feedback. On submission of this final exit task you will receive an email confirming and acknowledging your participation. These emails can act as a record of your CPD.
To get started, select a CPD resource or pathway below, enrol yourself onto the Blackboard site and begin your professional development.
New to teaching pathway [click to expand]
This pathway contains seven online resources, each of which will take approximately 1-2 hours to complete. The resources have been specifically selected to support those who are new to teaching in Higher Education (i.e. First time Associate Lecturers, Postgraduate students with teaching responsibilities, technical demonstrators), but may also be of interest to staff who wish to refresh their knowledge on key aspects of practice.
Topics covered include: the psychology of learning, planning for learning, teaching your first class, active learning in the classroom, an introduction to assessment, feedback for learning, and peer review of teaching.
Access the pathway here: LALT CPD – New to teaching pathway (Blackboard).
Programme Leaders pathway [click to expand]
This pathway is currently under development and will expand significantly from September 2025. Given the importance and value of the Programme Leader role, this early release is intended to provide support in the key areas of curriculum design and planning for induction. There is an additional resource on peer review intended to provide ideas on how to work with your team to enhance teaching and learning quality.
Each resource will take approximately two hours to complete.
