We have a strong culture of student engagement at the University of Lincoln and are renowned for student engagement innovation within the HE sector.
The University of Lincoln was the first to introduce a specific, institution-wide Student Engagement Strategy – placing the Student as Producer philosophy at its core. This approach, whereby students are not merely the recipients of ‘received wisdom’ but are rather the creators and co-creators of new knowledge, has been embedded as an underlining principle within our teaching and learning, and has put Lincoln on the map for research-engaged teaching.
Student engagement at the University of Lincoln includes a vast array of practices and projects that academics and professional service staff support, and lead on locally within schools and departments. This work all contributes to the key aim of ensuring our students are valued as members of the academic community.
A key element of student engagement activity at the University of Lincoln is the Student Engagement Network. All Schools and service departments are invited to nominate a local representative, who works closely with student representatives and colleagues in their School / Department. Where their role is to promote, encourage, enable and support student participation within their School.
The central LALT Student Engagement Team actively supports and promotes the sharing of good practice, as well as encouraging a shared understanding of the student engagement ethos within the University. All new members of staff are introduced to student engagement practices and support opportunities at the university by the Students Union and Student Engagement Team as part of their formal induction.
We aim to grow and develop student engagement at the University of Lincoln further, continuing to build on current activities as we develop new ideas and opportunities for student involvement / opportunities.
Partnership with the Students’ Union
We have a strong relationship with our Students’ Union which helps us work in partnership to enhance the student experience in meaningful ways.
The Students’ Union work with students to encourage a student engagement culture and run a range of academic opportunities for students to sign-up to. These have been designed to help them to engage and immerse themselves in curriculum development, staff-student partnership working, reviews and student-related activities at the University of Lincoln.
The LALT Student Engagement Team works closely with the Students’ Union and assists with promoting their Academic Opportunities enabling and encouraging staff to get involved with student engagement initiatives.
